Street Photography Workshop

(Only 5 Seats Available)

If you are up for a challenge, and interested in taking your photography to new places, come and join me for a three-part Street Photography Workshop. Street photography covers a wide range of images, and isn’t just limited to candid photos of strangers in the street. I like to think of it as capturing ordinary moments in extraordinary ways, whether on the street, at the beach or any other location where interesting things happen. It is a very challenging and rewarding genre of photography, and will help you take both your camera and photography skills to the next level.

We will start with a two hour class at the Mary C on Thursday evening. During this session we will discuss what street photography is, what types of gear work best, and techniques for capturing compelling street images (both posed and candid). The second part of this workshop will take place in New Orleans on Saturday (carpooling will be encouraged). We will spend the day practicing the techniques we learned on Thursday by creating images in and around the French Quarter. We will break for lunch (not included in the fee) to recharge. This will give us time to discuss how the day is going and answer any questions you may have before heading back out into the field. Then, to finish up the workshop, we will meet again on Tuesday evening for a critique and Q&A session back at the Mary C.

Ability:

This workshop is aimed at photographers with a good understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. You should understand how to change these settings on your camera. Post processing knowledge is not required, but may be an advantage.

Gear:

Any DSLR camera, small mirrorless camera or film camera will be required. You should have a firm understanding of how to set your aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

A USB flash drive will be needed for our critique session on Tuesday.

Other Tips:

We will be walking at a leisurely pace through the French Quarter from approximately 9am until 4pm with a break for lunch. Good walking shoes are recommended. Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather.
