The Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center will host a political rally for all Ocean Springs municipal candidates on June 3 — three days ahead of the June 6 general election.
“We are hoping candidates will bring supporters and bring new ones by expressing positive platforms for Ocean Springs,” said Vicki Applewhite, a member of the Mary C. O’Keefe board of directors and co-chairman of the event.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the “Mary C.” Fish plates, donated by WastePro, will be sold for $10, along with beer and cold drinks. There will be live music and candidates will also be given the opportunity to reserve booth space where they can visit with voters and pass out campaign materials.
Candidates with booths will be encouraged to have donation jars for the Mary C. and the candidate raising the most money will be declared the “winner” and receive a trophy.
“It should be a lot of fun and a great afternoon to learn more about the candidates, while raising money for our beloved Mary C.,” Applewhite said.
The event, billed as an “Old-Fashioned Political Rally & Fish Fry” will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of the Mary C. During the event, candidates will each be given five minutes to “stump” for votes.
Candidates have been asked to RSVP for the event by May 4.
